Cyber criminals have shifted the way they are targeting the trusted relationship between you and your clients and as a result, security risks are moving from cloud apps and passwords to now include email and productivity systems. In response to this threat, we have launched Practice Protect+ for our clients.

Cyber criminals have updated their tactics

2022 will go down as the year that cyber-crime changed.

The second half of 2022 was marred with big corporates having huge breaches, a trend that also held true for small and medium businesses but without the news headlines.

The standard spray and pray approach to online theft is no longer the main game. Business Email Compromise is the new battleground in an alarming trend towards targeted and specific methods to steal client data, hijack legitimate email conversation and fool trusted transaction partners into making false payments or giving up information.

In the past 12 months, over 3,300 BEC incidents have been reported with half of those resulting in financial loss.

Legislators and insurers are reacting

The message from the government is clear: Data breaches can no longer be seen as the cost of doing business.

In response to large-scale breaches, the federal government has increased the maximum penalties for serious data breaches from $2.2 million to $50 million.

Insurers are also making changes. Recently, standard cyber insurance inclusions have been adjusted so that social engineering and cyber fraud are extra’s rather than standard in the policy. You are now looking at an extra $4000 to insure against fraud, with a $10,000 excess attached too.

Next steps for your firm

Right now in-line with these changes it’s important that you review your security setup with a particular focus on email security. To help clients with this, we are currently offering a complimentary security audit review.

This review meeting is an opportunity to:

  • Receive a free report reviewing your security setup against industry best practice and ensuring you are using the latest Practice Protect features and products.
  • To evolve in line with cyber criminal tactics, we have launched Practice Protect+ to provide enhanced security around email and storage systems. We’ll give you a brief update on this product and based on your audit advise whether it’s recommended for your firm.

This review is completely free, takes less than an hour and there’s no obligation to take any action after the meeting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are technology add-ons right for my firm?

Practice Protect technology add-ons are designed for cloud firms with less than 25 team members. If you have more than 25 team members contact us for other products tailored to your firm’s size and structure.

How much do these technology add-ons cost?

The annual plan starts at $19 per user, per month (billed annually), however we also have a monthly option available that starts at $25 per user, per month.

How does onboarding work?

Onboarding has been built around the goal of minimizing the impact on your productivity. It requires no more than 45 minutes of your time split across two brief meetings, after which the technical implementation can happen behind the scenes.

What’s not included in Practice Protect technology add-ons?

The cloud accounting technology stack can be split into three main components; your cloud accounting applications, email (Office 365/G-Suite) and device. Practice Protect covers your cloud accounting applications and technology add-ons cover email and device security.

Outside of these components there is also technology change advisory, hardware procurement and setup, on-site support, physical office and internet connection setups which we do offer as part of our managed services package but typically this is only warranted for firms with the complexity required for over 25 team members. If you think this is you, contact us for more information.

How does this work with my current IT provider?

We’re a security first company, securing and managing technology goes hand in hand. There is overlap between what we cover and what traditional IT covers. If you want to learn more book a call.
