AUSKey is retiring on April 1st, 2020
From 1 April 2020 AusKey and Manage ABA Connections will retire.
Australians will now have new digital services to interact with the government:
- myGovID – myGovID is an authentication service to prove who you are online, and is not the same as myGov. Right now, myGov isn’t accessible from myGovID yet.
- Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) – an authorisation service that will let you link your myGovID to an Australian Business Number (ABN) and will also manage who can act on your behalf of your business online.
AUSkey and Manage ABN Connections will still be available until the 31st of March 2020.
What does this mean for you?
myGovID and RAM can be used with some government online services.
Your ABN needs to be linked to your myGovID using RAM before you can access the Australian Business Register and other online business services.
The myGovID app is compatible with most smart devices using:
Your myGovID should be set up using two of these Australian identity documents in order to achieve a Standard identity strength. Your name must match in all documents you submit:
- Passport (not more than 3 years expired)
- Driver’s license (learner’s permit is permitted)
- Medicare card
Other identity cards can be used in the future.
Link your ABN to your myGovID in RAM
To link your ABN to your myGovID using RAM, you’ll need to be the principal authority. The principal authority is the person who is responsible for the business or entity:
- Sole trader
- Eligible individual associate listed on an ABN in the Australian Business Register (ABR)
- Director or public officer of a company
- Partner of a partnership
- Trustee of a trust
- Office bearer of a club or association
Businesses or entities with non-individual associates (like trustee companies), will also use RAM in the future.
Your myGovID will also be used to log in to RAM.
Achieving Standard identity strength may not be possible if you are:
- An offshore employee
- A non-resident working in Australia
- An Australian without the right documentation
A Basic identity may be setup to access online services. However, this depends on the government agency that you’re dealing with. In cases like these, you will need to be authorised in RAM by an administrator in the business who has a Standard identity.
This functionality will be coming in December 2019 for participating government services. Some agencies may need further identity proofing.

A myGovID is needed to log in to RAM and to accept an authorisation to act on behalf of a business online.
